Being a fan of Thai food, my usual hang outs to satisfy my taste buds with would be Thai Accent (Vivocity) or Ah Loy Thai (Shaw Towers, Bugis). Yesterday, I decided to check out Aroy Dee located at Bencoolen Street.
It was decently crowded on a Tuesday during lunch hour and tables were being filled up fast. It seems to be a decently popular eatery that serves pretty good Thai food at affordable prices. The popular dishes as per online reviews as well as from the staff’s recommendations seemed to be Pineapple fried rice and Phad Thai (noodles).
Set lunch options for SGD 5.50 were available. I decided to go for Phad Thai along with Freshly Brewed Lemon Grass. The noodles tasted pretty good and in fact seemed to be better than the one I’ve had at Thai Accent. Chef was generous with the peanut portion served which was another plus (esp for peanut fans).
However, the Tom Yam Seafood Soup (SGD 6) which is a must have during every Thai meal was a disappointment. The soup was too tangy and lacked flavour in my opinion.
Mango Salad (SGD 6) was well prepared and the portion was generous as well.
My another must have during every Thai meal, apart from Tom Yam Seafood Soup, would be mango sticky rice dessert. Unfortunately I didn’t get to try it as it had ran out for the day.
Lunch for 2 pax at Aroy Dee costed us SGD 29 which I felt was pretty reasonable.
So, the next time you’re in the area, do check out Aroy Dee to satisfy your Thai food cravings.
