Today, I had the privilege of interacting with a bunch of special needs students. Like most other kids, he was chatty and was trying hard to get my attention. In the midst of our conversation, I asked him (very ignorantly), “What would you like to be when you grow up? A teacher?” And he replied me, “In my school, we only have 3 jobs – baker, chef, housekeeper.”
If we give it some thought, most have it easy. Definitely, easier. We’ve our whole lives ahead of us to stumble and choose what profession we want to work in, the career path we want to carve for ourselves. Yet, we whine and complain when things don’t fall into place easily. We find it tiring to find out what our strength/forte is. We wish life hands us all the cues to guide us to our destination, so we don’t have to unscramble them on our own. I think it’s time we grow up and think.
This 13 year old boy humbled me today.
