He stood there defeated against the metal chains that wrapped his ankles tight.
The air was so still, he could hear the warden’s breath, even for meters away.
He thought to himself, no one deserved to be punished for committing a rightful crime.
All he did was to steal bread from a store and feed his frail daughter; who had nothing left in her, to even cry.
He bowed his head and smiled at the blood-stained chains of freedom.
This was his freedom – being able to provide a meal for his daughter.
